they don't......most people do not know what weird means. it actually means something unworldly, supernatural and comes from the word wyrd.....people look at you as if you are abnormal, which we are.....because well it isn't normal at this time to have snails as pets.....I think it is extraordinary, myself though just for the reasons you noted. they do not make noise, cause real problems, pee on the carpet or shed all over your furniture. and they may try to run away, but they are easily retrieved even if you do not have a tracking collar on them. they eat simple food, you can share with them, do not complain, or tear up your house out of separation anxiety, or chew on your chairs or shoes., and so far I haven't seen one bite a mailman. and mine agree with me on everything I say, just ask them. I couldn't even find a GF to do that, which leads me to believe they surely must be far more intelligent then some give them credit for, because I am always right.

Folks think pet snails are weird because they haven't yet been introduced to the joys of keeping snails, that's why. ;D

Thanks. I've never thought of it that way. 25yrs ago I had pet rats, showed them &bred them. Loved them to bits. Snails are the same, they come in fab colours, they love a fuss....yes they do, have personalities AND I'm still weird!!! i think after all these years Tia me that's in Kilter & the rest of the universe that's not ;D

As soon as I mention it, people ask me to repeat it... I've taken to carrying hard-copy photos because they always ask to see the pictures ;D

I agree that snail take hardly any looking after, just clean, water and feed them No walking, no brushing, no malting, very easy to look after a snail. Also i think they can be very comical on what they do I think that people think snails are just pests as all they see in them is little slug and snail pellets, and that they are horrible, gross, and slimey. personally they are brilliant

As the saying goes it's horses for courses..... We're all different and that's a good thing.
There's plenty to like about snails, from their very interesting biology, their immense variety, the joys of keeping them, and their endearing qualities like the way they stretch their necks out to look around, and the way they gently mouth each other. But they are slimey, they do eat plants in your garden, I can't expect everyone to like them. Of course the slime doesn't bother us but it's understandable that it's off-putting to others.
I personally think there's something fascinating in every living thing, even those you wouldn't want to have anywhere near you!
