Heat pads are thin laminated sheets which provide gentle warmth when plugged in. I think they generally cost about £15 but it might vary depending on the size, and you can find them in most pet shops. I put heat pads under my snail tanks, although some people prefer to attach them to the outside of the walls. I'll usually only use them during the winter to keep the tank temperature over 20 celsius. The heat pad should only be big enough to cover about a third of the tank's base, so that your snail will have the option to move to a cooler area if it gets too warm. I hope that helps.

I think snailbutler has given you the info you need but before you buy one, make sure it is suitable for your tank. Some heat pads/mats are designed specifically for plastic tanks or/and glass tanks. One type/manufacturer that specify for use with plastic tanks or glass tanks that I know about is the Habitat Komodo range. (Sorry but i`m out of stock of these now). Always put the heat mat OUTSIDE the tank as I get many people asking if it should go under the substrate itself . OUTSIDE/UNDERSIDE only Regards Paul www.bugz2go.com
