minor technicality, really. j/king of course. and it is not illegal to ship snails to the US at all. it just depends on certain parameters. and that includes GALS.

Actualy it is illegal to keep gals in the US. As for shiping snails to the US, that is illegal all together without permits!!!! I highly recomend you do a little reading on this page! lhsfoss.org/fossweb/teachers/materials/plantanimal/landsnails.htmlIf you cannot get Helix from within your own state, you may be able to order them from a national supplier. At the time of this printing, the only states that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will authorize to receive Helix from another state are Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Washington. If you live in one of these

It's my understanding that the only people to whom permits are issued are credentialed educators or researchers. That means providing references from authorized people at your school or research facility, and showing proof of your own credentials.

like I said "It just depends on certain parameters. and that includes GALS." - GALS can actually be kept in the US as well as shipped to the US as well. heh, I'm just messing around with you though. you obviously do not know I am referring to them being shipped frozen, and not live. it's all in the details. also, I knew someone who shipped cocaine in hard drives through the mail also frankly.... the legality is really like I said earlier. a technicality. not that I would suggest anyone break the law or anything, however...or do drugs either for that matter. Thanks for the recommendation and the URL for the webpage.... if it's on the internet it's gotta be true. besides aren't you the one who offered to just send some aspersa to gajeel in Wis./USA? they'll get to him fine, and no one will probably care, honestly. I know I wouldn't.

heh, it's all good. it isn't illegal for you to send them...you as a citizen of another country are not bound by the Laws of United States anyways. it's ok if you send them to him as far as I'm concerned. in fact it was a very nice thing to offer. Although some have mentioned being concerned for the snails if they get found out, they would likely be destroyed. and that would be a shame and is a legitimate reason not to do such things...but lets face it...in life snails get destroyed by the millions throughout the world anyways. one hedgehog will go through a colony of them if it can get its hands on them, so it isn't like it is something that is going to be prevented by 'not' sending them in the post to the US.

Very true, but i would definitly have to agree with people who feel bad for the snails. Its not our right as human to risk their life for our own selfish reasons. Hedghogs eat snails yes, but its natures way. Snails being destroyed from discovery in post however, thats not nature, its the evil of the human race being forced upon helpless creatures. Dont get me wrong, I dont agree with the postage laws at all where mollusc are concerned or any type of creature that can survive the parcell when packed correctly. But at the same time, I nor anyone can change the laws but the government, and to be honest the chances of that are slim to non. for this reason I would rather just go with it than fight it :/

Many snails can survive very fine in hibernation, very hard to tell if it is actually alive or not alive. jus sayin.... I have known of at least 20 times when snails have been shipped into the US, and have not had any problems at all reaching their destinations, healthy and happy. most of them being shipped just direct and simply. Has anyone here ever had any confiscated or destroyed actually?

I find the best way to bring snails from another country is to go to the country and find them. the rest is simple. get a collection of shells from that country and pop them in a tub together with the snails. its rare the airport actualy checks your suitcase but if they do then "you didnt realise they were alive". Works trust me. Question is how far are you willing travel and at what cost for your snails. Im planning to do this in austrailia with the great panda snail. hard one to crack though austrailia. be lucky not to get checked their.. especialy as an english citizen :/
