After hearing a story about someone sending snails in newspaper i was horrified. Newspaper is not an ideal packaging material as it `drains` all the fluid from the poor snail and it ends up a sticky, slimey mess all pushed to one side of the box and the snail/s are left to freely bounce from side to side against each other and obviously causing great stress and damage..or highly likely death. Also the ink on newspaper could cause problems. Some people use coir substrate but unless it is nice and damp the snails can still dry out. In my opinion the best way and the only way I send snails is in a plastic container with air holes, line the bottom with a bed of MOSS, a few thinly slices (to eliminate damage to the shell IF it moves) of their favourite food, place the snail on top of the food and then give it a nice thick covering of more moss and finally a generous spray of water before placing the lid on. Then put in a strong box filled with polystyrene chips and ensure it can`t move within the box. If posting in cold weather always use a good quality heat pack and a fast delivery option. For the extra costs incurred when packing, most snail enthusiasts are willing to pay the true cost but always state the costs in the listings. Regards Paul www.bugz2go.com

I have never sent any snails larger than small babies that's about 1 cm in shell lenght, and I have packed them one and one in small film containers. Moss on the bottom, the baby on the moss, and then more moss on the baby. I use to pack them in so much moss that they can't move much, and thats the point with my packing too. I don't want them to move around in the container and possibly get injured because of it. I pack the film containers in both plane and wrinkled newspaper (I would never pack the snails in newspaper of course) så that if the package get a bump, the snail babies won't get hurt. Every time I've sent babies they have reached their new home the day after I've sent them, and they have been as happy and healthy as they were when they left me.
