Hello! I'm new here, been lurking for a while unregistered but this is my first post. I think our albopictas (imports from the UK) might have a problem with their shell growth. I'm not good at explaining things but I'll link a picture where you can see the weird new growth. So this is the bigger one of our albos, shell length 5cm. The other one is 2mm smaller and the weirdness is not so visible on his shell. I was wondering if there's something wrong with them? They've been growing slowly, we got them in September and they were 4-4,5cm back then. The temperature and moisture in the fauna are ideal for them, they're active, they eat well and rasp at cuttlefish sometimes. Their menu consists mostly of sweet potato, cucumber, salad (though they don't like it that much), carrot, yellow paprika and once a week puffened up cat food. I tried asking about this on a Finnish pet snail site but I couldn't get a response. We'd really appreciate any answers on this, or similar experiences!

Hi terva, welcome to the forum! Both your snails have the same weird growth on their shells? Did it begin happening at the same time for them both? Are both snails from the same clutch of eggs, or are they unrelated, if you know? It is a good sign they are active and eating well, and it sounds like they are getting good things to eat. I'm not sure what to say about the shell growth other than I would suspect it might be genetic. Perhaps others will be able to chime in on this topic and help figure out what is going on.

How do you define weird exactly?? The snail actualy looks fine In comparison with my Albopictas its shell and flesh is certainly a little darker but thats about it :/ are you talking about the jagged shell rim? If so, then its nothing to worry about All my Albopictas had a jagged shell rim for a few monthes when I purchased them, but its slowly started straightening as the snails grow. They are a very slow growing species of Achatina, so this is nothing to be allarmed about either Their diet sounds very interesting, I have to say, far more interesting than what mine get :/ I think what you have their is a well loved, well pamperd, well looked after snail. I wouldent worry about anything These guys are mine.. You can kind of see how these also had the jagged shell rim a while back and how its slowly becoming straight as the snails grow hope this helps rest your mind

Thank you both for the answers! I have no idea if they're related or not, but I do suspect they're from the same batch. They both have the same kind of new growth and it started at the same time, or at least I noticed it in both of them the same day. Oh, I see, axoloa! In that case this could be genetic! I was just unsure if that is normal or not, since our white jades' new growth is perfectly lined up with the older shell rim. I was afraid they had a defect of some kind. It is also very relieving to hear that albopictas are slow growing by nature. I haven't had snails ever before these guys so I don't know much yet and I'm maybe too much of a worrywart. : D I'm so relieved now. Also axoloa your snails look great! Thank you for showing them to me and easing my mind.
