Hi My cepaeas had several batches of babies that I had moved to a baby tank. Another batch hatched quick a while after and I left those in the adult tank. I did have some casualties in my baby tank but there were still quite a few in there. I just recently noticed that the babies in the baby tank that were born long before the batch I left in the Adult tank were far smaller and not developing well and the ones in the adult tank were thriving and getting larger then the ones in the baby tank. So I transferred all of the ones in the baby tank back to the adult tank and they seem to be doing well. I know it was suggested to remove babies from the adult tank. But for some reason it didn't work out for me. Just wanted to note this. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this may have occurred?

Personally, if I were to move any snails after eggs hatched it would be the adults, because baby snails are fragile. But I never bothered to do this with any but my garlic snails, because they are so tiny to begin with. And in the wild, babies hatch in the same areas as adults and are not naturally segregated in any way; they are all together in the same habitat, so I didn't bother with my bigger ones.
Also, not every snail that hatches is going to survive into adulthood. There are going to be some casualties along the way that are out of our control as snail keepers. There are a lot of variables that can play a role in how well hatchlings thrive.

Thanks Coyote,
I will keep an eye on them, you can really tell which came from the baby tank and which remained in the adult tank. It takes a little longer to clean the tank begin careful about the babies but I don't mind that at all. I posted a picture of one of the babies that remained in the adult tank and will take one of one of the babies that I had put in the baby tank and post that. It is a huge difference. It is so interesting to learn through observation and the help of others. Thanks again.
