Please be aware that we do not endorse the illegal sale of snails or of anything else on this board. If it is illegal to ship/receive any species in your country then please do not advertise a request or respond to such a request.
Please do not bring our forum or our hobby into disrepute by such behaviour.
Please also do not arrange illegal sales openly or via PM.
Sorry, we have to be tough on this issue. Any adverts found will be removed and any members arranging such trade risk being banned from the forum.
Thank you.

Just to add to this, if someone on the forum asks you to send giant African land snails to them in the USA or Canada, or any other country where giant African snails are illegal or restricted, please let one of the mods know via PM.
Thanks!

Roman our edible snails are illegal as far as collecting and killing are concerned. I'd imagine it's also illegal to keep them as pets in general, but I'm not sure. Is it ok to import them?

I asked a naturalist/conservationist a couple of years back - I contacted him through a blog he had on H. Pomatia (Roamn Snails), and he looked into it or me. He got back to me stating that it's not illegal to keep them in this country, just illegal to collect them from the wild.

Ah, thank you, Ness. That makes sense, seeing as breeding them would surely help the species.

In the west and south of England in southern areas on chalk soils. Its common name in the UK is "Roman snail" because it was introduced to the island by the Romans during the Roman period. In England only (not the rest of the UK), the Roman snail is a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, making it illegal to kill, injure, collect or sell these snails.

Hi all, Just a reminder that shipping any plant-feeding snail or slug across state lines is illegal in the US without the correct PPQ 526 permit. It's also illegal to import live snails or slugs into the US without a permit. Please do not offer or request to send snails across state lines, or into the US from other countries, on the forum unless you can prove that you have the appropriate permit, as this is illegal. Any member doing so will have their post(s) removed or edited and be given a warning, and repeated posts could lead to a ban from the forum. There is further information available on the USDA website: www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourfocus/planthealth/import-information/permits/regulated-organism-and-soil-permits/sa_snails_slugs/ct_snails_slugsThere are some snails that can be legally sent across state lines, as confirmed by the USDA, because they are tree snails that don't feed on plants or crops. These are: Caracolus marginella Drymaeus multilineatus Drymaeus dormani Drymaeus dominicus Bulimulus guadalupensis Discussion of shipping/receiving these species within the US is permitted on the forum. Thanks for your cooperation!
