ok i got these margie eggs and theyre big and bright yellow and lovely.
i left the eggs in the parents tank but the parents tank was so wet and the parents kept disturbing them so i put them in a small lunchbox on top of the tv (cus theres a freeview box and its warm) but theres no airholes in this lunchbox so i wondered do eggs need air?
i moved the eggs around so much will they hatch? cus margie eggs are very delicate
kind regards
mike

no margie eggs are the most delicate and you're not really supposed to move them very much

oh. it was probably just the outside of the eggs was meant to be tough. so tough even that the babies have difficulty getting out the egg.

yeah, that is true, they have very thick shells. Some sites mention not disturbing them but the margie breeding paper I have doesn't mention it, and Christabel hatches them with no special treatment. It does seem that they can almost tolerate free-standing water so it may be dryness that lowers their viability.

hi I dont believe that the eggs do need air because they are laid under soil but i am not sure. I am keeping mine in a plastic tub aswell

Soil isn't air tight though, and i'd leave holes in the tub somewhere - just incase.

I would assume they need air since there are living animals inside the eggs.........

I reckon they need air, but the amount in the tub will suffice easily. However, the best reason for putting holes in is to keep the air fresh, if you don't fungus and mold will grow and could contaminate the eggs.

I got some pots from Asda, both small round ones and larger square ones for 35p each, so there's no excuse, lol. Opening the lid regularly will do fine.

Do you want me to sit in the corner and rust, or just fall apart where I'm standing?
