HI ALL, I AM NEW TO THIS SITE & HAVE MANY INTERESTS IN SNAILS. IN PARTICULAR I AM INTERESTED IN BUYING OR OTHERWISE ACQUIRING FRESHWATER SNAILS THAT ARE NATIVE TO THE UK, PREFERABLY IDENTIFIED BY SPECIES. I ALREADY HAVE 5 SPECIES PLUS 1 THAT I CANNOT IDENTIFY. MANY THANKS .....

Welcome to the forums! I'm somewhat new here as well and have found everyone to be very helpful. A quick tip: you're much more likely to get responses if you don't type in all capital letters. It comes across as yelling and tends to make people cringe, plus it makes the text more difficult to read. Do you have photos of your snails you could share? I'd love to see them, and it would help others identify them for you. Again, welcome!

Hi, Thanks for the tip about not using upper case when typing. The names of the identifiable species of common British water-snails that I have are, as far as I know, Lymnaea stagnalis,Lymnaea truncatula, Planorbarius corneus, Physa acuta and Viviparus viviparus. The one that I cannot identify (purchased from Wayside Aquatics) is a smaller ramshorn, about 1cm across, brownish in colour and very, very thin, perhaps 1 - 2mm. I will try to photograph a specimen. I'd be pleased to know sources where I might buy different species. Cheers ........

Hello again - thanks for switching from all caps. Much easier to read! I'm not familiar with too many species of snails, but hopefully if you post a picture (and maybe start a new thread with the photo asking for identification help) others here will know what it is. As far as buying snails, I'm in the US, so can't help much personally, but there is a classified section of the forums here. Perhaps you could peruse the listings there and/or ask for something specific you are interested in. Many of the forum members are in the UK, so it's quite possible someone might have just the snail you're looking for available. Here's a link to that section: petsnails.proboards.com/board/10/classifiedsBest of luck finding what you want and identifying your snail!
