Rudolf, my Terrarium Terrorist, hatched who knows when, went to the Other Side with a bang 15.7.2015. Here's a little song I wrote for him. (To the tune of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer") Rudolf, the black eyed land snail Had a very broken shell But if you ever saw him, You would say he fixed it well Some of his fellow land snails Lived with him behind a school Ask me 'bout this Rudolf I never knew a snail so cool See, one sunny summer eve My man saw him and said, "Rudolf, you stand out, all right Won't you be our snail tonight?" Then for a year we loved him, As he terrorised his tank Rudolf, you black eyed land snail When you died, my heart sank.(c) 16.7.2015 Etana

Farewell to Rudolph. Your memory lives on in the songs of the bard.

Rudolf, my Terrarium Terrorist, hatched who knows when, went to the Other Side with a bang 15.7.2015. Here's a little song I wrote for him. (snip) I am sorry for your loss, but I love the song! Why exactly was he a terrorist? Thank you. Oh, why indeed, lol... I think that whatever shattered his shell and did some of all those scars also changed his neurology and as a result, his personality. At first he was a bully who didn't even try to get along with anyone. He'd push that rough shell into everyone else's faces and actually rub it in by turning it back and forth, and he'd pin down other snails in corners so they couldn't move. He was so strong with an over-developed muscle to support that shell, he could do that kind of things. He also bit me angrily, which thankfully only made me giggle as he didn't have teeth any more than other snails do. At some point the other snails had had enough and started sitting on him in piles of 3 or more. With these corrections, he stopped the shell bullying and when that happened, he actually started getting admirers who wanted to pair up with him. He refused to be anyone's pair despite some snails very obviously wanting it. There were some snails who never seemed to care at all for anyone but him. Some would snail behind him patting his shell and he'd act like he doesn't notice. One time one went into a hiding place and obviously signed "come hither!!!!" with his tentacles, well, Rudolf went towards him, the other snail waiting excitedly, love parts bulging.... and Rudolf dug a burrow right in front of the hide and stayed there for the rest of the day. Quite often, he'd eventually be found sleeping next to one of the snails who had tried to get his attention. He just liked to decide when it'd be. He also successfully woo'd many snails in the tank. Even when he didn't have his shell in everyone's face anymore, he'd still pull other snails off food he wanted, and also try to force some snails to mate with him, which ended in more of being sat on. I even saw him hold a snail down and put his foot over the poor snail's breathing hole! First I interfered, then the poor snail's parent did, and Rudolf ran to hide as the poor snail rolled over in the dirt squirming. These things are why he got the name Terrorist. He was also incredibly smart for a little snail. He knew how to ask for protein, how to get to places on my hand (including back into the tank after pampering in the kitchen - he'd come onto my hand from the kitchen table, and when I went to stand next to the tank, he'd stretch towards it and climb in by himself), he could shovel dirt with that shell (I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it), and of all my small snails, he loved water the most. He was the first one to use the bath tub at regular times, and no matter what he was doing, a little misting always made him do a very stretchy dance, every single time. Even if he was wrestling with another snail. Sometimes, well, quite often actually, he also was frustrated with that shell. When he needed to make a sharp turn, he'd turn his head back and rapidly turn the shell with his mouth, looking very angry. He also was absolutely furious when someone else made him fall. The tank won't be the same without him. <3

Like I alredy said one hell of a snail but t least he had some young with Twirly Eyes for you so you have a new herd of Tank Terrorists to keep you laughing with there antics in the tank. That sure is a good legecy for him to leave behind especially if they have the twirly eyes as well. Zorst

It is lovely when you find out about the little personalities of snails. I also have a local Tank Terrorist named Bigfoot, aptly named for his big, fat foot that he uses to climb on top of others, shove a hem aside, and steal their food. I wonder what it would've been like Rudolph to meet him!
