hope you dont mind me starting a new thread, i did look but couldnt find what i wanted. i went to the pet shop this morning and found some snails tucked in a far corner, i asked the chap to get them down so i could have a look. the poor little chaps had very little of anything. really manky food, no cuttle etc. there were about 50 in very bad shape. some had really badly broken shells. iv brought 6 home given them a good scub down but their shells are VERY soft. after their bath they did this!!!! i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd212/dorimossop/oddpics136.jpgi am assuming this is why their shells and the shells of the ones i left are so bad?!?! they are now all snug in a new tank with all the necessaries, but havent eaten yet they just buried themselves straight away. what do you think? just a bit of tlc needed? thanks, dori.

First of all well done you for rescuing some of them!! ;D ;D
The picture looks pretty much like normal snail behavior to me......It's quite common for them to investigate each other and slime over each like that...i might look like they are eating each other but they're probably not....just having a good old check out of each other!!
Nothing to worry about there...they look in pretty good nick!! ;D ;D ;D

phweww, i was worried when i saw them do this, it did sound a bit raspy and i thought no dont eat each other! it wasnt supposed to be a rescue, i went looking for spiders and found these instead. i picked the middling ones because some looked really bad and some looked quite good i keep thinking of those other ones now though.

awww, you did a great thing, those snails are much better off with you then left in the petstore with no food and in bad condition. but as Spook said, it is nothing to worry about, my snails climb over each other all the time chaching each other out.

Hi Dori
I agree well done for helping these little guys, to me their shells do look in fairley poor condition and look as if they have had no access to cuttle fish bone since they hatched.
What was the condition of the other animals in the pet shop where you got these guys from?

it might be a good idea to call the RSPCA if that is the case

it might be a good idea to call the RSPCA if that is the case my thought exactly, if the animals are being treated badly, you can get the petstore closed down, or fined for what they did. it isnt fair to the animals to be left like that. -miley

if the RSPCA will do anything that is, don't even get me started on my local petstore, and i know for a fact they have recieved complaints. but its always worth a try

A call to the RSPCA is definatly needed me thinks,it makes me so angry that people like this can even keep animals let alone sell them!

i shall have another look before i do anything. if i can tell them what animals have what wrong they might take it more seriously than a general complaint. its a aquatic and reptile place and i didnt think the rspca would be interested, you know, with no cute fluffy babies. i shall take my older two nippers too, they might be distracting enough for me to get photos as proof for the rspca. ;D thanks for your thoughts on this, il let you know how i get on.

i'm not sure, but if anyone does report to the RSPCA they could ask. i think the RSPCA would rehome the animals.
