Hi!
Does anyone have any Helix Pomatia's in the New York area? CT, NJ, NY, etc?
Hope to find someone!
Nick

I heard about H. lucorum being in New York, but I can't confirm it. The only H. pomatia in the US seem to be in the Midwest. I wouldn't mind collecting them to sell, but shipping to other states is illegal so I can't do it. I know someone who was shipping H. aspersa to different states, and after a postal inspection the USDA contacted him with a fine of $30,000 - Not something I'm willing to mess around with.

In the NYC area here, and definitely no h. pomatia in my neck of the woods, with no rumors of any in the immediate area, unfortunately. We seem to have several non-native species - I have yet to actually see h. aspersa, believe it or not, but have come across several varieties of snails & slugs not currently known to inhabit the east coast. There definitely is h. lucorum in my area, though as to the breadth of its habitat, I have yet to determine, and for the sake of a very, very endangered population, you can understand I'm not telling precisely where in NY they are. But these guys (see pic - and never mind his fungal infection) are literally in my backyard, so I'd definitely encourage anyone seriously interested in snail-keeping to make a point of snail hunting during the spring and summer months. Personally, I'd love to know what else is sliming around here...
