Hi there, I have recently consulted my specially qualified stunt snail Lucy ;D (a Helix lucorum) for a remake of the famous knife experiment, where a snail crawls over a knife blade without hurting itself. The result was a nice new page, which I'd like to show you. I hope you like it. Lucy showing off... > A snail at a knife's blade. Kind regards Robert

^ Same. But if it's been done with no harm, it can be done. But just beauce Lucy did it, dosen't mean others can to.
I wouldn't risk it.

Well I get that confirms the rumour, or at least it does for Lucy.
Fantastic photo, but I wouldm't have risked any of my snaily pals.
That said, it really is a stunning photo.

Hi @ll,
thank you very much for all your friendly comments. As I wrote on the page, the experiment is really very harmless for a snail. Snails, other than us, can easily crawl over sharp edges, any snail could, as their foot produces suction and their slime reduces friction.
But of course, a large and handsome snail such as Lucy made a much better photo model. Besides, for all teachers, this is a rather impressing experiment to show to a school class (I once did it and it worked out just fine!).
Glad to have entertained you,
best regards from Vienna, Robert
