Hi all,
Just a reminder that shipping any plant-feeding snail or slug across state lines is illegal in the US without the correct PPQ 526 permit. It's also illegal to import live snails or slugs into the US from other countries without a permit.
Also, all Giant African Land Snail species (Achatina and Archachatina) are completely illegal to own in the US. If you live in the US please do not post about obtaining or keeping these species.
Please do not offer or request to send snails or slugs across state lines, or into the US from other countries, on the forum, unless you can prove that you have the appropriate permit, otherwise this is illegal. Any member doing so will have their post(s) removed or edited and be given a warning, and repeated posts could lead to a ban from the forum. We cannot allow discussion of illegal activity to take place on the forum.
There is further information available on the USDA website:
www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourfocus/planthealth/import-information/permits/regulated-organism-and-soil-permits/sa_snails_slugs/ct_snails_slugs
There are some snails that can be legally sent across state lines, as confirmed by the USDA, because they are tree snails that don't feed on plants or crops.
These are:
Caracolus marginella
Drymaeus multilineatus
Drymaeus dormani
Drymaeus dominicus
Bulimulus guadalupensis
Discussion of shipping/receiving only these species within the US is permitted on the forum.
There are also laws about the importation of land snails into Canada, and which species can be legally kept. Please see here for info:
www.manandmollusc.net/odessa/snail-laws.html
In all other countries, before attempting to acquire or send snails via mail, please check the national and local laws for your country and area to ensure that it's legal for you to do so, and which species are permitted. It is up to you to make these checks before attempting to acquire snails and you should not expect the seller or sender to do this for you.
Thanks for your cooperation!
