From my experience a healthy snail (any age) has no problems with temps till lowest 2 degree C. Nearly every snails I got sent since September had the bad luck to come when temps have been below 4 degree. And we really had only such cold days every time a snail arrived. But not one of them died. They are all still happy and healthy. I got my white margies from Tom Halverson and it had -2 degree outside. They where all recovering quickly without any problems. Me thinks a short time on low temps (like the few hours till they are delivered from the post-office to my home) isn´t harming them. Just for example. Here in Austria my snails come from the airport (airplane) in a room, get on the truck and delivered to the next big post-office and from there delivered in my small one. This are short ways in cold for them and get warmed again in rooms (I am sure some rooms are not heated, but it doesn´t get frosty in). Even the lignus (which are no way used to lower temps) have already stayed out of their shells when I received them from fatslug and it was icy-cold on this day and I was already thinking that I get this time frosted snails.... So (but only MY opinion) I think that it depends more on the health-state of the snail and the proper packing if they survive or not.

Yes, It is around zero in there, but not below. I know a flight-captain. ;D. All my snailies get delivered by airplane and never had a snailie what got harmed by that. But this is just my experience! And think of my poor Australian-journey-snailies, they are doing fine and have been for hours (26 hours one-way?) in the plane....
