I currently have four adult snails, the youngest of which (about 1 year old) has recently exhibited worrying behaviour. The base of its foot is a sort of pink, and it won't move around or even fully come out of its shell. Its eyes are mostly retracted and it keeps sort of curling up without retracting.
I always wash my hands before preparing food, and rinse the food very thoroughly. I don't think it's anything to do with that as I've had snails for years and never encountered this problem. I also washed the sick snail, sprayed it etc, and placed it on a few different surfaces to see if it'd prefer soil or food or water, but it just kind of sat there. It's still responsive to touch and water, but only sort of shrinks back a little.
Any idea what this might be? There don't seem to be any problems with its mouth or any abnormalities except the colour of its base. It has a steady calcium supply- the only thing I can think of is it got injured mating, as its penis is visible and my snails are pretty sexually active.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

can you upload a photo of its pinkish foot? Unfortunately the snail died a few days after I posted- always sad but garden snails have very unpredictable lifespans and it had a good run it never showed any other symptoms so I still don't know what caused the death, but I'm guessing natural causes.

now i’m scared... my wild caught snail is suddenly lethargic and has a pink-tinted foot.
