Hello! I have been looking to get a low maintenance pet and I'm seriously considering buying a land snail. During my research I have been unable to find (good) answers to questions I would like to know before I get one.
1. Do land snails stink
2. How often do they need to be fed
3. Best place to buy in the USA
4. I have this terrarium background made of styrofoam would it be ok for the snail
5. Are heat mats/tape necessary because from what I have read temps need to be 72-84 F and that those temps can be met without them in my house
Those are all the questions I have currently, thank you for reading.

Snails themselves don’t really smell much, they mostly smell like dirt (just like a potted plant or something). The only time they stink is when you let their food go rotten, then it smells like an old compost bin.
Generally you should keep fresh food available for them 24/7, they are snackers and don’t really eat meals, they munch as they pass by.
For places to buy, I don’t really know unless you can find another snail keeper in your area. Selling snails across state lines is prohibited and many species are illegal to buy and sell period. All my snails are wild caught or tank raised by me and have wild parents.

The background should be find, but you might wanna post a pic of it just in case.
As far as heating, it highly depends on what type of snails you plan on getting. Some snails need it cool, some need heat, it just depends on species.
