Poo

I have my two adult fulica dora and beef in a very large plastic storage tub, i like it and they seem to love it. Beef laid eggs after 5 days of them being with each other, and he was on his own for a while. They are usually fine with eating and their poo is usually brown. But I looked in lest night and they were both having a poo just like normal after eating, except their poo was white and seemed gooey like a stringy bit of not quite dried tip-ex! They have been eating and behaving the same.
Please let me know what ever you know about the problem i have.
Peter

So white poo is ok? I thought i had to let them eat cuttlefish!? I feed them mostly lettuce, and leave a cuttlefish bone in the tank.

White poo is fine. Mine have white all the time, sometimes white with orange and green mixed in. very pretty for poo Just leaving it in the tank is fine and they will nibble as and when they feel the urge to. Make sure their diet is nice and varied, lettuce is fine, but contains mostly water so they need lots of other fruit and veg also.

Give them sweet potato and see whether it flushes them through. Carrot has the same bright affect.

Yep I would feed them a wider variety of food - as Moracai said - lettuce has a low nutritional value - GALS are big snails and need more energy than that provided solely by lettuce - to keep them a healthy weight you will need to feed a bigger varietyof foodstuffs. Dora loved sweet potato and courgette when she was staying here. If you are worried about cost - check out the reduced section in the fruit and veg aisle in your local supermarket. They often knock loads of fruit and veg that is overipe and in fact the snails probably prefer it that way. Snail poo is basically the same colour as what you feed - mine do white poo after eating cuttle too lettuce being mostly water will also give them very pale poo.

I'm chuckling to myself because I am always teasing Keith (boyf) about his family and their 'poo conversations' at the most inopportune moments and here I am discussing poo on the internet!!
