??? Help!?! ???
So I was walking down our street with my parents and my Dad found this snail and the sidewalk (What is a snail doing in the middle of town down!!!!!!). So I took it home and found out the his shell is broken up pretty badly. So I been reading some stuff about snails but I still confused. I've never had I snail before, I've had hermit crabs but no snail. Is taking care of a snail like taking care of a hermit crab? What should I do with him?! Right now I have him in a cardboard box with a lid of water and some uncooked oatmeal (is it true that snails eat oatmeal?). I NEED HELP!

you need to put him in a glas or plastic container, with a lid and some air holes. As his shell is broken you need to offer him lost of calcium. A cuttle fish is good. Even better if you could find some liquid calcium and put a couplke of drops in a spray bottle with warm water. He needs to be sprayed every now and then anyway. My native snails get sprayed every couple of days, or when they look like they need it. Not too wet though. Oatmeal is fine, but soak it with water first so that it expands, if you give it to him dry it could expand in his stomach and kill him. Offer him greens, such as lettuce and cucumber. Sweet potato is a favorite with snails also. Have a read of the forum and you will find lots of tips on care. Good luck.

OK so Rappy(My snail's new name) is doing pretty good now. I have him in a small plastic container. I'm looking for a bigger one now. I haven't found a cuttle fish yet because we live in a really small town, but I'm still looking. I read on an other site that you if you powder up some egg shell it serves as great calcium. Is this true? He doesn't seem to be eating, but I heard that's common too with injured snail. Is that true also? And one more thing my little brother loves to go outside and collect leaves for Rappy. Is that alright for him to do? Thank you so much for all your help!!

???Help! Anybody!
Rappy is not doing to well now. He went into a little corner a couple of days ago and hasn't moved scince. It's kind of like he sealed himself into his shell. Is he dead or is he Hybernating?!?!? My Mom and I can't figure out what to do. She said that if he dosn't move in the next few days we're going to have to get rid of him.

Yeah, he smells. and he hasn't moved in like four days. I think he is dead. Is there a way to tell if he is hybernating?

If he is hibernating, you will see a covering over the shell opening. If he smells awful, then I am sorry but he has died.

Well, now I'm confused because he has a covering over the opening of his shell and he smells! Well, he doesn't smell that bad, I guess I'll just watch him until Saturday. If he doesn't do anything I just assume he is dead

No need to wait, just break the seal/covering gently and spray him lightly with water. If he is still alive doing that should wake him up.

So, I did what you said and it turns out HE'S ALIVE!!!!!! I was really cool to watch him move around his cage. But then he went up to the very top of the cage and stayed there for a really long time. I went to spray his cage and accidently knocked him of the top of the cage. Then I saw he had the same seal thing across the opening his shell. So, should I just leave him alone and let him hibernate? I'm so confused, sorry.

Hey again,
Rappy has been hybernating for about two months now. Do I just let him wake up on his own or do I need to wake him up at some point? Thanks for all your help!!
