Depends on how warm your room is - have you a thermometer in your margies tank so you can tell us how warm it is in there? Some people seem to be able to get their tanks warm enough using central heating alone, personally our house is nowhere near warm enough for my tigers without using additional heating in their tank. Margies like 28-30 degree heat I think. If it is too cold for them they won't be very active.

Yep, you'll need a heat mat then as that's too cold for margies I think even fulica prefer it a bit warmer, all my snails are at 25c roughly, and I'm thinking of adding a heatmat to my margies tank

if your tank is plastic or glass you could insulate it with polystyrene tiles to keep the heat in, it works surprisingly well and they only cost pennies to buy............but long-term a heatmat is a much better solution. You dont even need a large heatmat. Mine is 12" square in a 48"x24"x24" tank it it keeps it nice and warm although with it being a wooden viv that helps keep the heat in too.

ok i will move my margie closer to the radiator untill i can get a heat matt! is your heating on all night as I know mines isn't? you'll need some additional heating for your margie at this time of the year. I posted on a thread previously about how different my margies acted after I installed the heatmat inside their tank. Brian.
