Hello I just want to say I know mystery snails need to have another snail to mate with to have babies. But..... I had 3 adults (2 female 1 male) 1 clutch was laid and for whatever reason my two females died before the clutch could hatch. So I moved my male to a smaller tank before the clutch was supposed to hatch. Now a lot has happened to that little clutch and I didn’t think any made it. In the mean time my male snail died and I didn’t get anymore mysteries cause I have 3 nerites. Well a month later I was cleaning the big tank out that had the clutch and low and behold there was this tiny tiny baby. I immediately put it in the small tank so I wouldn’t loos it. Now it’s been many months later and she is still the only mystery snail I’ve had and she started laying clutches. No big deal right threw them out as thought they were not fertile. Well there happened to be one clutch I could not see it was by my light and needless to say I have a million baby mystery snails! I got the identification confirmed on a snail group and as they got older you can def see they are mysteries. So I thought ok well maybe she did a last ditch effort to save her species as she is the only mystery in my tank nope nope nope got like three to four more fertile clutches! So how does this happen? She is still the only adult mystery snail I have. She has never been near another mystery her entire life. But I’m still getting fertile clutches?! Since they are related to the Apple whose has both sex organs is it possible she Is screwing herself to have babies? Did she want to be a mom that bad?

Hello! She might have mated with a male before you got her. The. She must have stored sperm and has now laid multiple clutches. She will most likely stop laying eggs soon. Good luck with the snails!

Sometimes certain species of snails will reproduce asexually when there's no mates around. This is probably what happened here.

Sometimes certain species of snails will reproduce asexually when there's no mates around. This is probably what happened here. That is true with some snail species! But, I believe mystery snails do not reproduce asexually, as they are not hermaphrodites, so they are either sexed male or female. A female mystery snail always needs a male mystery snail to reproduce. However, if she did lay these eggs without a male, the eggs are probably infertile. So, in this scenario, the female either stored sperm and waited for proper conditions to lay her eggs, or she layed infertile eggs.

So, in this scenario, the female either stored sperm and waited for proper conditions to lay her eggs, or she layed infertile eggs. Given the snail was born in the aquarium after the other 3 snails had already died and her eggs were fertile and hatched already, perhaps it's a matter of misidentification?

It could possibly have been a misidentification, but there is no way of telling at the moment. I reread this post, and there is also no way she could have fertilized her own eggs. If the OP wants to figure this problem out, they can send photos so we can confirm the ID of the snail.
