Hi everyone, My mega came to me with a damaged apex, probably from her trip from being caught as she was very well padded from Em. However the damage has got bigger and I'm now really worried I've found her not to have as much suction power as my fulica and occasionally she falls off onto the floor! Although there is nothing hard to fall onto I can only imagine the damage apex would break more easily anyway. My camera has been playing up so I've modified this picture to show the extent of the damage. How can I help to prevent infection getting in? Is there anything I can do to artificially repair the shell? Would a vet be able to? Or would they have anything I could use? Im really worried and would hope to prevent any further damage. Any ideas? Adam

Hey Adam,
I wouldnt worry.
Out of all the snails I recieved, there were very few with damage, all of which healed by itself. They are very fast in setting any exposed tissue.
None of those I sent out had any damage which would have caused concern.
These snails dont appear to have the same grip when climbing, seem more suited to the floor.
Apex damage in general (for me at least) hasnt been that much of a concern. Its quick to close over, I can personally see more damage being done with attempts to "help" than just letting the snail do what it needs to do. Provide limestone flour mixed in with the substrate to up the calcium content, and wait?

Am I right in thinking that any exposed flesh will create a calcified layer over it? I'm not worried about the way it looks, so long as she lives Hopefully I'm panicking unnecessarily but I'm so attached to him. Cheers Em.

Can you see any soft tissue?
The reason I say not to worry is I had one arrive with a puncture in the widest part of the shell clean round hole from where another snails apex had gone through the shell. Assumed it for dead, within a few days it had set hard, and its solidly grown a thicker layer. Never had an issue despite how large a hole it was. Have never seen fulica heal that quickly.
If you cant see any exposed tissue, dont give it a second thought. One of the first pair of these I aquired is missing the end 1cm of its shell. Hasnt had any damage since despite being clumbsey.
