Hi. My name is Mary and I’m in the U.K. I found a garden snail 9 days ago with a broken shell. I’ve been keeping him in a container with veggies, leaves and cuttlefish. The snail has spent most of the time on the underside of the lid. I’ve been misting the snail and container twice a day with bottled water. This morning, I noticed a soft, whiteish bubble on the snail’s left side. This is the first time I’ve kept a snail so any advice would be appreciated. I would like to attach a photo from my iPad but couldn’t work out how.

Hiya! It's great you're taking in that little guy, and you've done everything right by the sounds of it. The only thing i can think of that matches what you're describing is a snail's reproductive organs as they are white and could look sort of like a bubble.
You can easily attach a photo if you upload it to imgur and then copy the link! It'd be a great help :]

Hi. Thanks very much for the message. I’ve posted five photos, all recent ones of the snail, and the container. I noticed the ‘bubble’ this morning. The snail is moving pretty well but still spends most of the time on the underside of the lid. The shell is broken in several places but the shell and the bits seem to be attached to the snail and not loose. Any advice or suggestions would be welcome.

Ouch! That's a pretty nasty break. Miraculously it looks like its healing so it looks like they'll make it, albeit with a permanently weird looking shell (they don't heal perfectly). That's not it's genitals, my mistake. I honestly have no idea what it is, except maybe some innards (if those are coming out that's not great at all though).

Thanks for the message. The break does seem quite a bit tidier than when I found the snail 9 days ago. I wonder if I’ve been putting on too much water when I’ve been misting him twice a day. I was misting (bottled) water all over the snail rather than just on the foot. Maybe that was a mistake. That’s only one theory. I’ll see how things go tomorrow.

It's not really the snail you should be misting actually, but it's enclosure so everything it crawls over can be nice and moist. I hope they heal!

Hello! The break looks pretty bad, but I think they have a good chance at making a good recovery! Everything sounds good care wise. You could try making a snail bandage, I made a video about it, and it is perfectly safe. It’s pretty much just going to help your snail from drying up and keep some bad bacteria out. youtu.be/iFetj3lc83c. It’s completely up to you! I came up with it randomly, and have had good experience with it. That may help with the “bubble” like thing, it looks like it’s organs of some kind. Try giving them a green tea bath as well, to help with the healing process. I hope this helped, I hope you are doing well!
