Any advise would be appreciated I'm kinda new to owning a snail but yeah my african land snail its not even a year old has started acting really weird over the past month or so.
He only stays on his cuttle fish and its not like he's binging on cuttle he still eats his greens and his protein but just stays in one place always barely moves. He used to stick all over the walls of his tank etc
I've tried completely cleaning his tank, freezing his soil and even just leaving the soil as long as can be because I know they thrive of the bacteria in the environment they live in but it's seems to have done nothing.
I tried adjusting the temperature of his heat mat but it has been very warlm lately so turned it off.
I've tried giving him warm baths, changing the foods I'm giving him but nothing seems to do it.
He looks healthy and no signs of shell retention syndrome but am super worried about him I feel like he should be more active
Also don't know if this has anything to do with it but he also sleeps outside of his shell alot and will only smush his face in

Hi! It is very strange your snail is being a bit slow lately. I have noticed in snails before, as to why they do it I’m not sure. It could be just their natural behavior. Do you have an springtails in the tank? What’s the temperature in the tank? Does he seem weak at all? I’ll see if I can find any more information for you. I hope this helped you out some though!

There are no spring tails in his tank anymore but there were some before I cleaned it out etc, I don't have a thermometer in the tank I have ordered one though. His heat mat says it stays at 24 degrees though. When I take him out his tank he's more then happy to slither about on my hand or even in his bath just as soon as he's back in he'll just sit on his cuttle. Thank you for responding:) any info is helpful

For a younger GALS i wouldve suggested a growth spurt but at 1 year old that doesn't seem likely (they slow growing alot after 1-1.5 years) what species is it though? The most common species of Giant African Land Snail, the Lissachatina Fulica, does fine at 22-24 degrees but others wouldn't and that could be a cause for the inactivity. Additionally, is your heat pad connected to a thermostat? If not I highly suggest it as it'll regulate the temperature inside the tank and change the heat pads output of heat accordingly. Your heat pad will just warm itself constantly regardless of the temperature inside the tank so unless you're constantly looking at it and adjusting it accordingly your snail will end up too cold or too warm. Not to mention, it is so much safer as heat pads when used alone are known to malfunction.

I will definitely be getting a thermosat now because I didn't know that. Even though he is a Lissachatina Fulica, I don't trust that it's keeping him at the right temp now. I have it turned off for now as it is really warm lately so will get a thermosat before I turn it back on.

This seems to happen to some snails at certain times, and then goes away.

Snails can go inactive, because of pests, incorrect temperature, etc. We want to make sure that this is something small and not something bad, like deep retraction syndrome.
So, try and giving your snail some extra nutrition, and a small amount of protein/vitamins. You could also try a green tea bath again.
