I have a 5 gallon tank with one Betta and 1 very healthy Gold snail. The fish is over 2 years old, maybe 3. His fins getting raggedy so I added some water with Bettafix in it and Mr Snail not so well seeming. Could the Bettafix be bad for him/ her?? Thank you!

Hello! Bettafix can be poisonous for invertebrates I believe. So make sure you check the bottle. I would right now, go ahead and more your snail to a different tank/container. I hope this helped, and I hope your betta and snail get better soon! Let me know if you have anymore questions.

I never recommend bettafix for bettas.
If his fins are looking ragged or he is developing fin rot, it’s most likely a water quality issue and medication won’t fix the problem.
I would recommend you stop using the bettafix and just do a 50% waterchange, add a double dose of seachem prime and api stress coat and a few almond leaves and keep the tank at between 78-82°.
Do a 30-50% waterchange every week and keep using prime, stress coat and almond leaves till his fins heal.
If his fins don’t heal up in a couple weeks, then you can look into medication, but IMO, bettafix is not a good option and can have a damaging effect on bettas lungs. Kanaplex is what I would recommend for fin rot.
Bettafix and Melafix are essentially the same thing (tea tree oil based medication), however, tea tree is extremely harmful to bettas labyrinth, so Bettafix is just a more diluted version, in turn being less effective. It isn’t actually a very good option for bettas.
Kanaplex is just kanamycin (a basic fish safe antibiotic) and works much better.
