Hello! My kids (8 and 2) have recently adopted some garden snails who are currently living in various containers with lids. I thought it'd be best to get the opinion of you guys who own snails (I recently came across the site after changing the snail's dirt and Paul's (oldest child's snail) eye stalk wasn't coming out and I thought it had been broken or something so Googled if the eye stalk would grow back. Anyway. We have a big plastic container that was bought today and I'm unsure how to set it up, what do they NEED? Can all 3 snails go in there with no problems? Other than lettuce and apple what should we be feeding them? The snail's are just from the garden and different sizes. Any other tips or tricks are welcome ☺️

Hello! Welcome to the forum, I'm so glad you have become interested in snails. So, setting up the snail's tank will be dependent on their species and how big the container is. Here is a calculator you can use for housing your snails if you'd like www.petsnails.co.uk/snail-calc.php But, if your container is pretty big, I'd say it should be fine to go ahead and use for all three snails. Once you are ready all you need to do, is add a substrate, deep enough for the snails to burrow, and any decor you may like. You can then add in food, protein, and cuttlebone for your snails, and introduce them to their new home. The tank will need to be misted, etc, but you can read about that on the linking send you. This is a care guide that I made, and it talks about everything you will need, from the substrate type, to decor, etc. www.starlightsnailrescue.com/blog/674539_snail-care-guideYou can feed your snails pretty much anything from this list petsnails.proboards.com/thread/9416/feed-snailsIt is best too regularly feed your snails more nutritious things, and less of the less nutritious things, like lettuce. So, usually you should give them sugary foods and less nutritious foods not as often as other foods, but you can still feed them just not as often. You can change up the things you feed them each week (Ex. I may feed my snails carrots, squash, and peas this week, and change things up next week to grapes, carrots, and potatoes, etc) So, you can change up their diet every week like that. Carrots and sweet potatoes are good staple food, which is something you feed them all the time, along with the other foods, in which you change every week. Anyways, I hope you have a great day! Let me know off you have any further questions!
