Hi,
My cornu snail lay eggs and it looks odd. It is joined together like sausage and transparent. When I pick it up it is one continuous string. The snail is looking really thin now and resting.
Questions: 1. What could cause this odd looking eggs? 2. Do snail get very thin after laying egg?
Thank you

Hello! I am an experienced snail owner, and I have recently experienced a similar issue. One of my adult Cornu aspersum was continually mating with one of their siblings, and kept laying a huge cluster of eggs, that were in a giant sausage shape, and obviously infertile. I run a snail rescue, and she was fortunately getting adopted soon, so her and her sibling would be separated, so I didn't bother separating her. Although that was a mistake, she ended up laying a few more of these gross clutches, and then passing away. I found her one day in the soil, in the middle of laying another weird clutch, but dead. I was heart broken. But, my point is, is that I am not sure what the issue is. It could be that your snail is laying a huge mass of infertile, deformed eggs, or it could have something to do with inbreeding. Are any of your snails related in your tank? That could be the case, and could potentially kill your snail. So keep a close eye on them. I will try my best to do research, and see what I can do to help. I did bring the situation up in a different snail group once, just to get opinions, but they told me what I already knew. I directed the clutches but never found much. I wanted to direct my snail that had the issue after she passed, but I was not doing well mentally at the time, and I was too sad. So, I did not dissect her, but I wish I did. Maybe I could have found some useful information. But anyways, I hope that helped! Let me know if anything I explained was confusing, or if you have anymore questions! Like I said, I will do some research, and see what I can find.

Snails can get thin after laying many eggs, it takes a lot of energy and resources. Unfortunately I don't think snails are able to control their urge to reproduce, when the conditions are right my snails will breed until they start getting thin and ill.
Could be worth separating your snails for a while, to let them recover?
