hey, i'm so glad i found this forum
i have two gals - nicodemus and damascus, and damascus has had a flaky shell for about two months now. he has a warm, moist tank and gets calcium from cuttlefish one. nicodemus is fine and they get the same things. do i just have a sick snail? is the shell too dry?
also, what is rasping?
i'm not sure what to do, and now it looks like the new, flaky growth is separating from the old, glossy and smooth and healthy growth. i can't get a picture up but his shell is purpley and rough, and like an infected toenail. i've looked for mites and things and i can't see any evidence of them - and nicodemus doesn't have any so...
thanks so much, and sorry for the long message!

If damascus is eating well, is not retracted and is active then don't worry. Many snails have this flaky shell thing where the top layer seems to peel off but they are fine. Rasping is how a snail eats food it is the action of its 'radula' which is like a very rough tongue which wears away at the food. Val
