One of my strongest healthy looking snails all of the sudden seems to have a small white worm in her right eyestalk then moved to the left! It almost looks like a fruit fly when they are in the worm stage. Photos: imgur.com/a/tbrJqp7I have had a recent situation with fruit flies so unsure if that’s even a possibility. Anything i can do to help get it out? Feel so bad! Can’t be a nice feeling though she seems to be acting normal, many thanks!

Hello, I have seen images of a grunting snail (Cantareus apertus) that had a small worm in one of its eyestalks. It was a much smaller worm, probably a nematode: schnecken-forum.de/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=32363The snail was successfully treated with "Panacur".

Unfortunately, I have no idea what kind of worm it might be. For a nematode, it is too big, I agree.
"Zombie snails" are subject to a parasite (Leucochloridium paradoxum), that is very specific to and only occurs in amber snails (Succinea sp.).
Your snail has definately not the zombie-snail-parasite and probably not even a nematode, but the fact, that this worm is living INSIDE your snail is enough reason to worry, where will it go next?

So bizarre! My concern exactly.. where will it go?? I do not currently see it in the eyestalks.. I did randomly find a post on Reddit that had a very similar if not exact situation but unfortunately it was an old post with no information or follow up. Im very unsure it’s related but I’ve been dealing with those not so please t fruit flies, which I have pulled some of them off the snails when they are in the worm stage (larvae?) I’m not sure if one got into the breathing hole and found his way into the snails eye. Maybe completely unrelated.. maybe worth noting.. Suppose I’ll update here if something changes in the event someone out there comes across this same issue and is curious the outcome.🪱🐌

Worm seems to still be moving in the body and eye stalk, I read online about something called ParaCleanse can be used to treat snail parasites /worms.. does anyone have any idea how you would apply this? It’s usually meant to treat fish and aquatic snails but I’ve read people say it can also work on terrestrial snails.

I have never heard of ParaCleanse before, but that does not mean a thing... I found this at fritzaquatics.com/products/fritz-paracleanse"ParaCleanse does not treat Nematodes or Roundworms. For these parasites, try Fritz Expel-P."Maybe you should look for "Panacur", which definately seems to work for snails (although they do not like it). It is available as a paste and as tablets and comes in different concentrations, that makes finding the right dose difficult. Do you know a veterinarian that can help? I have not used panacur on my own snails (there was no need to), but I have read a report from someone who used it on grunting snails (see my post above) which are much smaller than Cornu aspersum.

Thanks for the reply, is panacur something you can buy online? as I’m having a hard time locating a place to purchase. Seems tricky finding the right dose and unsure of a vet that could help.. Ive noticed people talking about pumpkin seeds though I can’t get mine to eat that whatsoever, and red bell pepper, not sure if any of that has been provine to work in this specific worm. anyway I’ll keep trying to find ‘panacur’ in the meantime been trying to find anything more accessible as it now appears to have at least two of those worms 😩

Sorry for the late reply, for some reason I missed your update... Panacur seems indeed available online, I found offers after entering "Panacur online" into a search engine, and some even seemed trustworthy. You may get Panacur as tablets, paste or as 2% suspension. From what I have read, "paste" is the best for our snail-purposes. It does not dissolve well in water. Here is how a 7-gram grunting snail was treated with 3 drops of 50mg Panacur diluted in 10ml water: schnecken-forum.de/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=354983#p354983It's probably difficult to find the right dose for a Cornu aspersum, my guess is it needs twice the amount.
