Does anyone know what this is? Its hard to see in the picture but its a big white hole, it gets bigger and smaller and only comes up occasionally. They've had mites recently so is it anything to do with that? He's also just had a bath there if that makes any difference? I'm just about to rehome them as being honest I'm far to lazy to look after them properly but wanted to send them off in good health. Also any advice regarding the mites? From what I've read they just need cleaning out and bathing regularly? Thanks

How old is the snail? It looks like it's just reached sexual maturity and it is it's sex organs that you keep seeing appear and disappear. The bump can be quite surprising the first time you see it. As for mites, yes the best thing to do is to keep your tank clean, pick out poo daily, remove food after they have eaten to keep it from spoiling. That will also keep down the appearance of flies, which now that the weather has turned warm will start to make their appearance. I, and others, have had great success with using hypoapsis mites, which eat the "bad" mites and don't bother or irritate the snail. These can be found on the internet. I purchased mine from a place called defenders. If you have a look on threads about mites you will probably find several threads with the web address.

He's around 6-8 months I'd say, I've had him since december and he was a reasonable size then. Glad to know its not anything wrong with them!
