Hey everyone, the strangest thing is happening to my poor garden snail Rapunzel and I don’t know what it is. About a month ago I noticed she had some rot along the edge of her foot and tail. I’ve had some snails have this before and they usually ate it off or ignored it and it was fine. However they were a lot older than her, she’s only about 6 months old. Then her mantle started changing, it’s like marbled, not an even color. Then today she fell at some point, she was upside down in her shell when I found her so I turned her over and put her in her food tray. About 2 hours later she wakes up and at first she looked fine but then it looked like the weight of her shell was crushing her body. Like she looked melted or deflated. It’s gotten progressively worse over the last hour and she released a large amount of liquid out of nowhere- it’s clear not yellow which is good but it’s still very strange. I feel so bad I don’t know what’s going on or how to help her. I have her separated so I could watch her but now I’m not sure if what she has could be contagious so I’m thinking of keeping her out but in my experience they don’t recover quickly if at all when removed from their home environment so I also don’t want to upset her unnecessarily. Anyone know what this may be and what I can do? I added pics below. Thank you Here she is about 10 minutes after I took the first pics. Her body is still blob-like but less so and her eyestalks are a bit more pronounced but still not coming out.

Hi! I’m sorry I can’t definitely answer your post...but I share what I saw with my snails...maybe I’m not telling you anything new as I have seen you here for a while so you must already be knowledgeable.
In my experience when snails can’t extend the eyes could be a lack of oxygen and I suggest, although I’m not sure if it would help in your case, that when you put the snail back maybe you lean her vertically against the wall of the enclosure rather than leaving her on the floor horizontally. That’s how I see my snails choosing to rest if they have issues with the mantle and breathing.
About the foot rot...omg I’ve never seen that in a live snail, but I saw it when my snails passed and I put it down to dehydration or heat. So maybe trying to bathe the snail often so that the foot would regularly absorb water and hopefully go back to looking normal.
How is the snail doing? Is she still alive? Is she eating? I hope so...is the mantle attached properly to the shell? I’m sorry if I can’t reply with any useful help...i myself sometimes come across new problems with snails that I can’t find an explanation anywhere. Please let me know how your snail is doing? I do care.

I usually prop them up on a carrot when they become immobile and put a little cap of water next to them so they can drink but her decline was so fast. One day we will know the reason behind theee mysterious issues and have cures.
