Has anyone ever heard of a snail dying from consuming bread mold? Ive suddenly lost one of my Immac's, which was found next to a piece of bread that had started to go moldy.
Its the only thing I can see that he may have done differently from any of the others, who are all still fine.
Thanks.

I've never heard of it. Apparently too much bread mold can kill humans, because it restricts blood vessels and it contains hallucinogens similar to LSD but I'm not sure how that affects snails. In my experience snails like food beginning to mold and if you think about it, in tropical humid conditions, the chances of snails encountering fruit that isn't moldy are slim. It depends on whether there is something particularly bad about bread mold. And with us knowing so little about snail biology, I think you'll be hard pressed to find out.
The only other potential issue I can see, and this is a long shot but worth raising awareness of, is if the bread contained GM corn. I say that only because honey bees are dying out worldwide and they think it is related to GM corn; it somehow depletes their immune system, so who knows what effects modern foods will have on our snails.

Thanks for the reply Paul. Ill certainly double check the bread for what it contains; they have eatten the same brand ok previously but I know manufacturers love to alter the ingredients.
