I have had the worst accident ever. I went to check my maximas just now. As I lifted the lid Jack fell off. He fell a little way onto the carpet. The problem was, as i turned to pick him up I stepped backwards! I clipped him and he has lost quite alot of shell near the mouth.
I have put in in a separate tank on cappilary matting with moss and leaves. I have reduced ventilation to raise the humidity as much a possible. I have sprayed the area and removed the sharp pieces of shell. Is there anything more that I should be doing?
A very devistated mickysnail

Just thought I would give an update on Jack. he is active, eating and seems happy enough. The only thing is he is having real difficulty repairing his shell. He did start a repair but that broke. The poor little guy isn't having much luck. mickysnail

By reasons for security is preferable to put Jack in a individual terrarium (If you have more snails with it) , the snails when lose its shell are very delicates.

Jack has lost his new growth again. I am begining to think that The break is too large to mend. With the loss being half of his shell, I can't think of a way to secure anything to it The hole I just too large. Has anyone any more suggestions that may help him? He seems to still be eaing, active and doesnt seem to has lost any condition. Thanks mickysnail

Hi, I recently took in a wild Helix aspersa that my dog had stood on.... his shell is very badly cracked exposing most of his soft body.....didn't think he'd make it through the night and his shell is unbelievably soft anyway... you can see on the pic, how much his shell has slid back from its original position i put him in a tank of his own with minimum air holes to keep the humidity up and just about covered the floor of the tank with calcium powder, which he was wolfing down like you wouldn't believe, i gave him some food mainly courgette and cucumber and when i checked on him this mornin he has already repaired part of the huge crack in his shell, you can see the new growth circled in pink He's defecated and has been eating and drinking and is still munching through loads of calcium powder but is doing really well, he has built those patches overnight, so my advice would be keep him wet, give him his favourite food, keep him isolated, and calcium, calcium, calcium!! I'm still on hourly obs of this little guy but he made it through the night when i didn't think he would.... anyway hope that helps, hang in there, he knows what to do, give him time, and good luck!! DoA ;D
