I have kept Giant African Land Snails (Achitana Achitana - tiger snail) for 7 years. I have two of my original pets - purchased aged 4. The shell of the largest of the two has somehow turned from dark brown (normal) to brilliant white (presumably abnormal?). The colour change took about three weeks. I have not changed their diet recently, and the white snail (previously known as 'Stripe') still appears in good health. Does anybody know what could have caused this change, or whether it is dangerous? If neccesary I could get a picture.
Many Thanks Jazz

It sounds like the periostracum (outer layer) has peeled off. This happens with some species more than others, particularly in older shells. If the snail is still eating properly and therefore getting decent nutrition, it isn't a problem.
