Sometimes I have these flies in my tanks, although since I've put the Hypso mites in,I don't see them much. They are annoying but won't harm your snails, obviously removing old food is what is usually recommended, but my snails have a tendency to spread it through the tank...

I haven't got them yet this year but last year they were a flaming nuisance they didn't harm the snails but they are so ANNOYING!!!!!!!! I hung some fly papers over the tanks and that actually helped quite a bit, looks disgusting but helps the fly problem. Val

¿ The flies are small ?, it appear for: Bad clean of terrarium, rotting food on subtrate or walls, snail's dung. These flies normally eats and breed on fruits or rotting fruits (Or another veggie).

Think it's just one of the things with it being such a humid environment!

Hi, I don't know how big your tank is, but mine's quite small - it's only got two babies in, and I covered it with an old pair of tights - let's the air in - keeps the flies out. if it's a bigger tank maybe you could use some fine netting, like the stuff they make tutus out of?!

I get those pesky flies aswell... How do they get in there?? I don't get them anywhere else in the house and they just seem to appear, usually a week or so after i've cleaned the tank completely and added in the Coir substrate. I thought that maybe eggs were in the substrate and hatched over time??

Since I've been using chiffon over the tanks, my fly problems have disappeared. I used to be plagued with fruit flies because once they're in, it's hard to get them all. If you're having fly problems check this out: www.petsnails.co.uk/problems/flies.html#start
