Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'm house sitting a friend's pet snail. It's just a wild-caught garden snail from Berkeley, CA. The surface of it's shell has been cracking and flaking off. What is left is a very pale/white surface. The snail itself seems to be fine, but I'm concerned as to why this is happening and if there is anyway to prevent further destruction of the shell.

Does the snail have access to any cuttlefish, they need the calcium to build their shells and keep them strong..

Hello, sometimes this happens when a snail gets older,it's just normal wear and tear. It's the outer layer of the shell peeling off and nothing to worry about.

Ok, then I won't be too concerned about it for the moment, thanks.
