Hey you,
I'm really shocked and stressed.... Today I got the next 2 albopictas and....a few minutes ago I had to freeze one of them!! The bigger one didn't want to come out, she looked very strange to me...so I gave her a warm bath, held her in my warm hand...after a time she came out, only a little bit. I put her into the tank and watched her carefully. Suddenly I saw something like a bubble at her mouth (I had this before with a suturalis, she coudn't eat anymore, I had to freeze her, so that she didn't have to suffer anymore). So I took my albo into the kitchen to have better light to observe her. Suddenly this bubble got bigger and bigger and....(now I used my dictionary) she had a prolapsus!! All her viscera came out of her mouth, a real big thing, it lookes terrible, believe me! I was too shocked to make a pic...I stared at this bubble full of this viscera (do I use the right words?)....I'ver never seen that before and I hope, I will never see something like this again! I take my albo and froze her. I'm really sad about that.....now I got 4 albos and I hope so much, that they stay healthy. Big big fingerpress!!!!

Oh my God, how horrible for you, how shocking. I'm so so sorry (((((HUGGGSSSS))))) She must have been very ill. I've heard of this happening, it's probably the worse problem that can happen. Fingers crossed that the other four remain well. Keep us informed. Ali. P.s. Your English is fine Cleo, yes, it's a prolapse. we call it "Gut Extrusion". See www.petsnails.co.uk/problems/gut_extrusion.html#start for details in English. ((((HUGGSSSS))))

Thank you for your hugs, Ali, this is what I need now.... The problem with the prolapsus is also known in our german forum, but we also don't know, why it happens sometimes or if one can help in such a situation. I was just talking to a friend of mine, she's also keeping snails as pets and she just started to study biology and she told me, that up to now no one snails with this kind of sickness could live more than a few days, so it was "the best" way to freeze her....unfortunately we don't have an animals doctor for snails!! Of course I'll inform you concerning the other albos, all of us will hope for babies.... Edit: Wow, thank you very much Ali, that's very interesting to read about the different diseases!!

and im sure must be awful for the snail , i hope your others do ok now karen Yes, it must be very awful for the snail and...you stand there, unable to help her... The other ones are ok. I think albos are very lazy (like archachatinas), during the day they hang at the top of the tank but when it's getting dark they come to eat. I hope they don't use nighttime only for food...

Hi, i'm really sorry about what happened. It was a prolapse, in most animals it means the wall falls partway out of the uterus, but yes, in the case of snails its the guts. My hamster has prolapsed a couple of times, and we found out it was because she had a womb infecton, so its possible your albo had an infection somewhere that caused it. Anyway i'm sorry again, i hope ur others are okay.
