Hi all, got a new adult tiger snail yesterday morning, i did expect him to be quite shy and take quite a while to come out and take a look at his new home but nearly 24 hours later he still hasn't come out of his shell, he has moved around in there so i know he's alive, have tried offering him some food and given him a bath last night but that hasn't got him to come out, I'm not too bothered, he can spend the rest of his life in his shell if that what he want, but i would like to come out and eat now and again, any ideas on encouraging him to come out?

When I have snails, who don't want to come out after a longer time, I don't give them only a bath, I really put them under water, so that they are "diving". Maybe that sounds a bit cruel, but up to now, it was working! The snail has to breathe, so after a time she comes out. I do that "diving" for some minutes, take her out and see, how she's behaving. In most cases I see the body inside the shell moving, then I put her again under water, again for some minutes. When the head is coming out of the shell I put her on my warm hand and give her time to come out completely.

Hiya, might try that, have been in contact with the place i bought him from and he was happy and active before his was sent to me, have sat him near a heatmat and put the central heating on in case he was chilly after being posted to me, i'll keep checking on him every hour and see if anything changes...

hiya , with some of mine sometimes a warm shower helps , get it just warm and keep it on him (on the shell) sometimes it takes a while , but the constant warmth is sometimes all it takes to get him out of the shell

That already happened to me on the beginning. I found that people have bigger chances to be sucessful in breeding tigers when buying captive bred ones. Mostly juveniles. lool, But I have a big wild caught one for one year, he´s massive and still growing a lot.Sometimes is more a matter of luck rather than the conditions on which they are kept. For company I have 2 juveniles ( captive bred) that are growing like mad. ;D

Hiya, i'm afraid hes gone to the big snail shell in the sky, he went very green and even more smelly over night so my son and I (hes only eight and was quite upset) just had a little funeral for him in the back garden, we sent him off with cucember and lettice for his journey and i'll plant something pretty over him later, thanks for everyones help and support, even though he never came out of his shell and we didn't get to meet him properly he was a member of our family for a short while and will be missed. Hard to believe how attatched you can get to snails....
