Hi, your snails look very much like fulica to me. The loss of colour in the shell is probably from them being housed in an acidic substrate like peat, which strips off the external layer over time, causing this faded effect.
The splits in the shell are probably down to poor shell growth, this is generally attributed to lack of calcium, or even periods of illness in the snail itself.
They won't heal, or get the colour back, but as the snail grows hopefully better shell growth should begin to reveal itself. This will improve the appearance of the shell, but only on the new growth around the snail's opening.
The important thing is that the snails are healthy in themselves, yours look very well to me!

i love it when people take in snails as their own, it shows good character and kindness.
