bah humbug eric I like the time of year that is Christmas (snow etc [hopefully]) and the general feeling of spending time with my family etc but I hate all the "crap" that comes with it such as buying overpriced cards and all the other stuff that has become "tradition" but is really just exploitation. Brian.

I hate the whole religious side of it, but without it - there'd be no presents. (or dinner, or parties, or crap films on telly, or crackers, or tacky Christmas decorations, or....etc etc) Ok I love it really! Wahooooooo - I finally got my Chrimble spirit! Not literally...

i'm kind of split on the issue - i'm from an extended family so for me christmas brings back a lot of memories and 'what ifs', but i'm also a pint half full girl so i always make the most of it and enjoy what i've got.
might be worth giving it a try eric2? e
ps, as to the religion thing - in this secular day and age does anyone really think of that? surely it's more about being the season of goodwill these days?

No eric you're not.
I don't like it either. Even as a kid I hated it. Maybe I'm a rotten sod but I never send Xmas cards (or B'day cards) and tend to ask people what they want as a pressie, even the Grandkids, I have never understood the attraction of Xmas.
On the other hand I tend to give presents to people when I see something I know they would particularly like, or they collect, or in the case of kids if they have been really well behaved. At least that way they have 'done something' to deserve the gift.
I don't like the idea that a kid can be a horrible little trog and still expect loads of gifts at any particular time.
I know that makes me sound a right boring, rotten 'do da' but I'm not really. I spoil my kids/grandkids all the time (just not at Xmas).
Anyway I work all over Xmas and New Year so I get no fun out of it anyway.
