I just received the strangest email. Did anyone else get one of these? Hello! I just came across the website on petsnails.co.uk, and I noticed you have 3 pet snails of Lignus intertinctus. I am doing a PhD at the University of Nottingham, and part of my work involves doing an evolutionary tree of the Achatinid snails. We routinely do DNA work and sequencing from tissue slices of different snails, I was wondering if you can provide me with a small slice from any of your Lignus pets. What we do is we cut a small piece from the tail of the foot of the snail and put the slice in ethanol. In this way we don't harm or kill the snail, and they usually grow back in no time at all the tissue that has been cut off. I shall be more than happy to provide you with a sterile scalpel blade and a small screw-capped tube containing ethanol where you can put the tissue slice. Please let me know if this is alright with you. Yours sincerely, Ian Fontanilla Institute of Genetics Queen's Medical Centre University of Nottingham Nottingham, NG7 2UH

PMSL, it sounds serious but who in their right mind would ask someone who kept snails as pets, to take a chunk off their back end? Hey - maybe that's where Dave's tail went? *shrugs*

My first reaction was someone was taking the p***, but it could be legit. But the thought of taking a slice off of one of my beloved snails... same as asking for a slice off one of my children! Guess he figured if you don't ask, you don't get.
