ok i moved all the other snails out the tank except the thaumastus.
one batch of three eggs was laid carelessly, so i dug a little hole and put them in, then i put this plastic cup thing with holes in over it to protect them.
the other snail is laying more carefully, deep into the coir.
i put the heat mat directly under the eggs, does this sound a good plan? i really want hatchlings
kind regards
mike

Mike, as you know I'm not all that good at this - never had eggs. But I think you have done all you can. Now lets just hope they are fertile Have a good few days away and don't worry

Bit late I know, but I wouldn't put the heat mat under the eggs, unless there is a good layer of substrate between them and it. Constant heat from below is the least natural situation. Most creatures burrow to escape heat, and undertank heat mats thwart this. The warmer they get, the deeper they dig, and the warmer they get! It's better to put heatmats behind, or on the back or ends inside the tank, thereby heating the air above the compost, more than the compost. I've had slugs die as a result of burrowing, when a heatmat was under the tank. Basically, they were cooked

Yeah cuz they are a bit slow on the pain uptake, they don't feel pain until damage is already done like snakes and lizards etc

oh well i dunno i thought babies liked warmth. anyway the heatmat isnt that hot. and the eggs arent that deep in the soil. so shud i take the heatmat away? but brazil is so hot surely theyd be used to it?
