Hello everyone!
I am a new member to this forum and I just wanted to introduce myself and give you some information that might be of interest for you. We (my wife and me) ran into Achatinidae around 1996 during our course of studies and since then we have bred different snails. I am hooked on invertebrates in general and every now and then I try to write down some of my experiences with the animals I have kept/bred. The case is now on for landliving snails and slugs. At the time being I am only breeding Achatina achatina and Archachatina marginata cf. suturalis but since we are going to have a book published next year I am searching for people who have any species of snails or slugs from the tropics and have some surplus of these species. They will be cared for either by me or my co-author of the book who works for a museum of natural history. I am breeding diverse species of invertebrates and you can get an impression on our website www.evertebrata.de
From April 06th to April 13th 2006 we will be in England (my aunt and uncle live near Newbury) and I thought that might be a possibility to meet some snail-fans of England in person. One day (at the least) we will be in London. If we can meet somewhere we could maybe exchange some species of invertebrates and snails. Unfortunately I can only offer concerning snails Archachatina marginata cf. suturalis and Achatina immaculata "two-tone" and most probably Achatina fulica from some friends. But I can offer other species of invertebrates (spiders, phasmids, mantids, millipedes, Triops species, and so on) for an exchange if you are interested in such. And of course I could just and simply pay some money..........
The book we are writing will be published in German language but maybe the publisher will be interested to have an English version too. In any case any contributions you can make will be regarded accordingly. For some species or facts about snails and slugs we also might be in need of photographs. The book will cover European snails and slugs and exotic species of snails and slugs, the biggest part being of course Achatinidae. But we would be very much interested in exotic species of slugs (like Veronicella) and exotic snails that are "breedable" other than Achatinidae. Just write me an email if you want some mor information about ourselves, our animals, the book or whatever!
It would be very nice if some of you could drop me line.
All the best to everyone!
