I have a picture sent to me of them by the seller ;D the name is spelled wrong in the picture, but it is of the snails we ordered, the species we got are oblongus haemastomus ;D they are Uruguayan Giant Snails ;D Like eric mentioned, we're hopeful we can get more The picture also says "Strophocheilus" but I was told they're Megalobulimus oblongus haemastomus, so I dont know where Strophocheilus comes from?

Did you manage to find out the differences between variants? I couldn't so I only know mine are Megalobulimus oblongus but looking at the pictures on google etc. and this one I can't see any difference.

I'd imagine the name haemastomus was derived from "blood" so I wonder if it has to do with them having much more pink coloration, or perhaps much more saturated colour.

Im starting to wonder about the name Strophocheilus, I didnt notice it in the picture till now, I was even told they're Megalobulimus oblongus haemastomus before being sent the picture, Ive just looked up pictures and there is a species Strophocheilus oblongus haemastomus, could they be those? Eric, do they have the extra mouth parts Megalobulimus has?

Strophocheilus is an old synonym of Megalobulimus That explains it then About haemastomus, I agree, since haemastomus may be derived from "blood" it makes sense if the difference between them and other variants has to do with them having a pinker or redder shell than other megalobulimus.

Neither would I, I'll be keeping my ones in they're own tank.
I think I remember reading somewhere (on here?) that it isnt a good idea to mix african snails with european snails, so it may be the same with south american snails and african snails?

Was just asking out of interest, not thinking about getting any so didn't have any intention of keeping them with my GALS. Got enough snails with what I've got already (and got planned). Just wondered really
