i have just been reading that remarkable creature the snail and found this for studying snails: "snails cannot live on lettuce alone. They may eat lettuce eagerly at first, but then they will loose their appetite for it. An all lettuce diet is particularly bad for young snails. They will not grow to full adults. You should give them soe rotting leaves. They will gobble the leaves up, and they will grow up strong on their natural food"
can all land snails be fed on decaying leaves?

leaf litter wont hurt the snails as long as its from a pesticide free area and is non toxic leafs.
oak is really good and all mine get it now and then.

erm, in the wild what do you think they eat.lol
leaf litter is a staple for a lot of inverts.lol
full of protein and stuff.
lettuce is 95% water at least, and has very little nbutritional calue, if you jsut fed that then they would not be gettign enough vits and stuff and would evenetually die.
good for hydrating though.

The leaf litter ( also called cryptosphere) is where the greatest biodiversity of living beings lives on, is very rich in a lot of nutrients. For example the ponds of water ( formed by rain droppings) that are inside the big rotted leaves that are on the ground, contains tanic acid ( a lot of animals, including inverts, drink it) and other elements, that are essential for their welfare. Most land snails lives on the leaf litter, they are the cleaners of the forest, because they turn dead leaves, dead animals, fungus, into elements that can be more easily absorbed by plants, so thats a cycle. We may call that a symbiosis relation ( an association between 2 or more alive beings that benefits each other) between snails and the jungle trees.
