I know, you must be sick to the back teeth with my piccies, but I live a boring life and it occupies the time ;D Sam (fulica) Sam and Cooper (the god knows what) Cooper Sally the dimidiata with her gammy shell In this one she's had a spray with water Oh yes, and one of Sam's babies I've noticed three of my snails (Sam, Sally and Cooper) now have a white tip to their shell - Sam and Sally's being the brightest - is it normal, or are they not getting the nutrients they need or something? And sorry there's no pics of Gary - but I couldn't find him when I had the camera out ;D

he is lovely, with tinted yellow to his shell :-) don't worry about the white tip all snails get it, it's just because it's the oldest part of the shell and has worn away.

Yeah, it's odd, cos I cant say I've noticed any yellow on him when he's been out, maybe the camera flash perhaps. Ooh I'll have to get him out for a look now *lol*
Still not sure what he is. He's growing so quickly, and I'd have thought at his size (just over 5cm) he'd have lost the stripes by now, my dimidiatas have. But then again Sam still had stripes when he arrived and he was slightly bigger. But his were clear stripes - and shades of brown, not this really dark mahogany red/brown and cream. Odd snail. Also his shell seems different - it doesn't point down like Sam's does, and is much wider and shorter.
But I still think he definitely resembles a fulica. I know they vary a lot so he's probably one. Just those little differences make me wonder!
Glad the white tips are ok. It's odd about Sally's shell though - as Gary's is similar (scratched looking) but not as bad, and Kathy told me her dimidiata from the same batch has a similar shell. Very strange.

I hope my dimis don't lose their stripes... I'll check mine later as their shells looked a bit funny too the other day. Maybe it's a young dimi thing? Cooper has a sort of chess board pattern lol. Nice pics. Sam's a poser

don't worry about the scratched effect, all snails get it unless they are kept in a padded tank lol, it's just where the shells has been dragged along then sides of the tank and objects in the tank and has worn :-)

I meant that quickly lol. Not all of them do (that quickly) though from looking at one of the pictures on the site. www.petsnails.co.uk/gallery/achatina_dimidiata/achatina_dimidiata_05.jpgThey look bigger than mine So hopefully mine will keep their stripes for longer. Oh, and they still don't totally lose them to me. The "bands" of colour are still stripes in my book

Oooh they dont look like my dimidiatas at all. Same colour-ish, but mine dont have the stripes - they lost them a couple of weeks ago - and Sally's only 2cm.

They're in a plastic tank though, and kept on sphagnum moss, so lord knows what they're scratching it on. My others dont have this problem, and they were in the same tank til yesterday.

None of my others have it like that either. I've just checked my dimis too and they only have some scratching near the first whorl. It wasn't as bad as I'd thought lol. Mine are basically a smaller version of those in the pics. Mine only have 3 whorls I think at the moment.

Bless, are they little 'uns then? I've noticed where Sally's new growth (the stuff that's grown since she arrived), there isn't any scratching.

My dimis are about uh.. rough guess here lol. 5cm shell maybe. Hopefully I'm not too far out haha.
Have you given Sally a little wash off? Sometimes what I think are scratches on mine are actually from the cuttlefish. It just looks like scratches where they've rubbed against it going underneath it lol.
