Was cleaning my snails out today and decided to take a photo of what I have noticed since owning my Achatina fulica white jade. It seems to me there is a marked difference in the relative angle between the shell apex and aperture in the 2 variations of this species. Wondered if anyone else has noticed this or if it just unique to mine. Here's the pic - not the best quality but Zebedee my 'normal' fulica is on the left and Madame Cholet my albino is on the right. I have drawn with a red pen to emphasise the difference in the angles - the albino seems to have an almost right angle whilst the normal fulica has a more obtuse angle.

My one is too growing the new part this way. I do think, that comes from bad care over a long time (loads of generations). Let´s see, how the babies are doing and growing then in better care.

I hadn't thought of that - the care issue I mean - I wondered if the different shell angle could be a distinguishing feature of this fulica sub-species. Interesting point about observing how the babies grow - I am hopefully getting one soon so will watch how its shell grows and compare.

This is not limited to white fulica's but can be seen in other fulica's as well(one of mine has it).I think it is not a bad care issue but more likely something that happens at random.

Just thought I would update this thread in case it is of interest. My baby jades have grown a bit now and their shells are certainly the wider angle common in my normal fulicas and not like Madame Cholet's. They have been active and provided with good nutrition since very tiny. Anyway here's the pic. Baby on the left and Madame Cholet on the right. Other baby has same wider shell angle.
