Im sure ive seen some of the answers im looking for on the forum but I cant find them when I need them!! Firstly, I have a pregnant Rodatzi ive only had her for a few weeks but there are eggs in her airhole. How long does it take after mating for the eggs to be seen in the air hole. I want to know so I can figure out who the other parent is, it could be a yellow shelled rodatzi or a hamillei? The other question is about genetics, if any one knows can you let me know what is the ratio of hamillei:rodatzi in a batch for; a rodatzi-rodatzi pair a rodatzi-hamillei pair a hamillei-hamillei pair? Also does anyone know any more aboout the size/age at which you can tell the difference between rodatzi and hamillei markings? I have 4 babies from rodaztis that are 1-2 cm and they have black spots on them but are much lighter background colour than fulica babies that ive seen. Hope this makes sense im a bit delerious because im ill

Copigeon had about 13/50 rodatzis from a hamillei/hamillei pairing, I believe. I hatched 20 eggs from a rodatzi/rodatzi pairing (from felix) and they were all striped.

This is from what I found out from my rodatzi and hamillei adults
Rodatzi from lotsofsnails (Mike). When I first got her, she was kept on her own and Mike told me he has not kept her with his other fulicas. I got my first batch of eggs within a week after I got her. I kept 60 eggs, I only have 2 yellow shells from that batch.
Rodatzi laid again, this time she was put with copigeon's rodatzi. I kept 60 eggs again, and no yellow shells, all come out hamillei.
Rodatzi then was kept with one of the hamillei I kept from the first batch of eggs, both laid eggs and I kept 30 eggs of each, I have got 2 yellow shells from one batch and 4 yellow shells from another batch.
Rodatzi laid again (without seperate her from the hamillei), and I gave the eggs away, but from what I read from the members who got from me on the forum, most eggs hatched but some died within a week and the rest have hamillei. I kept 60 eggs of that and I got 5 yellow shells.
As far as I know, the true colour ddid not show until at least they are about 2 cm in shell length, but the hamillei did show some "spots" on their shells within a week after they're hatched.
As far as I know from my own rodatzi, the % of having yellow shells is extremely low. It's like a gamble. I would like to do the experiment again but finding home for them is almost zero as when you just mention fulicas, people tend to run miles away from it and it's not very fair as they have such bad names. I am stuck with so many fulicas now and I don't believe squashing them or feed them to my reptiles at all.

It does seem very low, as I had expected! But also very variable. I will keep as many eggs as possible in order to find out more about ratios unfortunately I may have to find a good way of disposing of unwanted hamillei, possibly someone with reptiles. I only have a Gecko and im sure she wouldnt eat snails, she only eats crickets at the moment not even meal worms!!

That's interesting.
I have several Rodatzi adults and young-but-breeding. Every single snail that has hatched from these has been Rodatzi, all except one! Just one little stripey Hamillei and all the rest Rodatzi.
