This is how Adebisi looked when I got him: (I know it doesn't show the newest shell there but it looked like the same all over him back then) And this is how he looks now: Closeup: There is no doubt that he's got new shellgrowth since he arrived since I've seen it sometimes myself. But why does it look like this now? it's like the top layer of the shell has been taken away or something. He doesn't seem to be ill or something. He's eating and sliming around as usual. What's wrong and what can I do about it?

Wow. That new lot is so much better. Maybe a good (but gentle) scrub will get the rest of it looking almost as nice as that?

But it's not just better shell, it's like the top layer is missing on the new shell. I tried to draw it but it's hard, I hope you know what I mean (the blue is the old shell)

i know what you mean, but new shell growth is always thinner than old one, and may be slightly below or above it, especially if there has been no new shell growth for a while, the same thing happened with one of my fulica. you should be glad he's growing nice new shell ;D

I didn't know if some of it was just "scratching" like mine sometimes get but looks better after a wash. As said don't worry and enjoy the new shell. It's very pretty and it makes him unique having a shell like that ;D
