Sally my little dimi (I know, two tone) is growing very strangely. Whereas her brother is growing nicely now, she is growing, but her shell isn't growing the way it should. She's shown new growth for a while now, but no change in her length since last November. This is a piccie that shows it better than I can describe: Her main whorl is getting wider and wider, and has a bulbous kind of lump on the far side, and underneath. I couldn't get a piccie from underneath as she decided to peep out, and her body got in the way. But if you imagine, the opposite side to her shell's edge, is growing wider and wider, but it's not turning to make her shell longer, just getting bigger. You can sort of see it in this pic taken a week or two back: ...but it's more dramatic than that. I'll see if I can get more piccies...

Here's a better piccie, still doesn't show the full extent of it as it's gone into the finger a bit. Where it joins the next whorl, her main whorl over hangs a bit, like a smaller scale version of the iredalei on the other thread.

it's just a shell deformaty, it's stunted growth and when this usually happens in healthy snails they don't usually grow very big at all, i've seen stunted fulica and they only reach about 5cm then stop...
as well as the way she is, i think she may be stunted too...

Yeah I thought so. Well she stopped eating a few days ago now, I'm having to put her on the food, warm baths doing nowt, so we'll have to see how she goes. Considering she's had everything she needs to grow well, since last September/October, and to not grow one whorl in that time - there had to be something up. She had a very dinted looking shell when she came, not as in damage - just the way she was - flat in places. On the other hand, Gary's coming on fine. I just think I got the runt with Sally, bless her 2 or 2.5cm, fully grown, methinks she wont be staying in the margie tank when they grow up!

Would that explain why her shell is more worn too - from being in the same position all the time?

Will do Apple She's a doll. There's a chance that I might be getting a couple of iredaleis, obviously to keep in seperate tanks, so maybe one could go in with her It's really odd that I didn't notice she had no new whorls til I was going back through the piccies today. She has the same she had when she was even tinier, when she still had baby shell. Bless her.

My little Carsons (the iredalei) biggest whorl is like this. It's just gotten wider and looks more bulbous than the rest of them. She still looks healthy even if she is small I think it's a cute little "quirk" lol

oh thank you.
quite honestly i feel bad for breeding iredalei with such a high percentage with strange shells.
this year's batch won't be crossbred
